Nice, large clear LCD screen. Numerous settings to select from - from completely manual to completely automatic with multiple choices between. Settings range from novice picture takers to serious photographers. Knobs/buttons/wheels nicely laid out with little visible LEDs that tell you when you are overriding the automatic setting on the camera. Face detection works well, even with multiple faces or side profiles in the picture. Resolution is really, really nice! Optical viewfinder and LCD screen match, so no compensation needed - optical viewfinder adjustable for those of us who wear glasses.
Starts up in less than a second, ready to rock and roll. Haven't tried the movie setting yet, but Canon usually does well there, too. With an 8 Gb Class 6 SDHC card, it tells me I have over 95 minutes of video recording time.
My initial impression is the Used Canon PowerShot G10 is a top of the line, well-built non-DSLR that has most of the DSLR features built into it. Can't go wrong buying it!
Not really a con, but a "watch out" - when you shoot with the RAW setting, you will generate a 20+ Mb file with every shot you take. The camera writes them out quickly, but after a full day of shooting you are going to EAT UP your hard drive space with them. DVD backups and good "pruning" of the shots is essential - or - buy a BIG USB/FireWire drive to store them on, or burn them to DVD quickly.
I've been a "Canon PowerShot G10 For Sale" fan for a long time, and this camera hasn't disappointed me - just the reverse. I am very impressed with it. Although a bit pricey, for what you get it is well worth it. If you are just looking to take pictures to upload to the 'net, there are cheaper cameras. If you are looking for a camera to catch the subtle colors of fall foliage or as a substitute when you don't want to drag the d-SLR everywhere (they do get heavy after a while!) but still want the control and resolution, you can't go wrong with this camera.
If you are a serious photographer, the specs for the Cheap Canon PowerShot G10 don't lie. If you are looking to step up to the next level but don't want to invest in a d-SLR, buy this camera - you won't be disappointed!
